Our Inspiration

We at Overflow 9:12 are inspired by God's promise of a threefold effect from the fruit of this ministry:

1. met needs of others

2. blessings to the giver

3. expressions of thanksgiving to God.

The ministry of this service is not only supplying needs of the Lord's people, but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God.

2 Corinthians 9:12

OUR STORY

A warm shower is something most people take for granted.  But for unhoused individuals in Coachella Valley, getting clean can be challenging.  The unhoused often go long periods of time without a shower, a reality that can and often does have detrimental effects on physical as well as emotional and mental health. Mobile showers are a very real need that is insufficiently met in our area.

Overflow 9:12 began as one of those moments where you are sure God is telling you to do something, but you wonder if He knows what He is talking about!

And then dots began connecting in the most unlikely ways.  Seeds planted a year prior suddenly sprouting. Meeting for the first time a couple who happened to have years of experience with mobile showers in another state.  Professional collaborations eagerly stepping up as partners.  Skilled volunteers zealous to jump in even when this idea didn't have a name and was nothing more than a whisper.  Churches and other host sites happening across our paths at the most unexpected times.  Civic organizations standing by with interest.  Discovery of a close family tie with a man none of us ever met who, upon his passing, left behind mobile shower equipment which we were able to purchase.  (More on beloved Tim Breon below.)

Some might say it’s serendipity.  But we place credit where it belongs – firmly in the hands of the same God who told us what to do in the first place.  We are humbled by the opportunity to help meet the need. And to grow this service for the benefit of every unhoused person in Coachella Valley needing a shower and all the love that comes with it.

Overflow 9:12 is a grassroots nonprofit organization based in the Coachella Valley.  The founding seven members were brought together by the common threads of faith, commitment and hearts eager to lift up those in need by serving them with the unconditional compassion, generous grace, confident hope and undeniable truth of Jesus.

IN THE BEGINNING WITH TIM BREON

A stalwart, beloved man of relationships and service, Tim Breon has gone before us and, without ever being blessed to have met him before his passing, has inspired us in this shower ministry.  Upon taking ownership of our mobile shower equipment, we learned of its origins.  Tim.  To some in the Coachella Valley, that’s all that needs to be said:  Tim Breon.  The man who’s never without the biggest, warmest smile and the brightly shining heart of a servant.  Provider of hot meals to the unhoused in emergency shelters, dedicated volunteer at churches, youth organizations, food banks, and transitional housing for the unhoused and mothers and children in crisis.  And in 2018 Tim started his own widely-known mobile shower ministry, buying the shower unit and truck that have now found their way to Overflow 9:12.

It is said by all who knew him that Tim’s life exemplified two priorities:  loving God and loving others well.  He kept his heart open to Jesus’s calling and his eyes open to opportunities for bringing relief, hospitality, dignity and respect to the most vulnerable and distressed among us.  A humbling legacy for those of us inspired to follow.

His renowned smile and the faces of those Tim valued tell his story better than words. â€‹â€‹
